What is the Purpose of This Blog?

Like I mentioned in my last post. Finding authenticity and depth in worship is really tough, and we have to rely on being rooted in God FIRST in order to have a hope at understanding it. This blog is called Rediscovering Worship. I have wanted, for a long time to put together some resources to help the church get off the track of developing content and on to the track of discovering the heart of God. This will be a place where we can venture together to uncover ways to grow deeper in our conversation with a holy God and translate that to our worship services.

I have wanted, for a long time to put together some resources to help the church get off the track of developing content and on to the track of discovering the heart of God.

I’ll be using Rediscovering Worship to compile thoughts, experiences and worship experiments for you all. Here are some of the topics I plan to discuss on this blog….

Leadership in Worship

  • Maybe you are a worship leader, planner or pastor. Maybe you are saddled with the task of coordinating the Sunday morning service and all its moving parts or maybe you are part of a team. Maybe you are new at this and don’t know where to start or maybe you’ve been at this for years and you’re ready to shake things up. We all could use a bit of rediscovery. What I’m wanting to share is the experience of looking at worship with fresh eyes. We’ll work on uncovering how God is leading His church to deeper expressions of worship.

Worship Songs and Sets

  • Have you ever experienced picking the right song for a worship moment? If you have, I would bet it felt more like God really picked it and you simply discovered it. What we’ll be working towards here is not so much how to “craft” expert sets for maximum results. It’s more about how to ask God to reveal His heart and desire for a particular worship experience. I’ll examine songs and the thought process behind them to learn where God is leading the church to deeper expressions of worship.

Songwriting

  • The last time I wrote a song (that I was actually happy with right away), I had a very similar feeling to discovering the right set list. It didn’t feel like I had accomplished very much other than unearthing something that was there for me to find. A lot of creators feel this way. In this blog I will examining the songwriting process a fair amount. What makes a work inspired and how can we rediscover what God is wanting to say through originality.

Ideas for How to Effectively Tell God’s Story

  • When we gather for worship. That’s really what we are doing. We enter into the story of God with the community of God. And to lead worship is to have God’s story at the forefront of your vision. Join with me as we rediscover what it means to be Pastoral storytellers as well as leaders.
